HOW PH-ILD PROGRESSES
It’s important to be checked for PH regularly because PH can appear at any time as your ILD progresses.
ILD causes lung tissue to become stiff, making it harder to breathe and get oxygen into the blood.
PH causes the blood vessels in the lungs to become narrow, making it harder for blood to flow and causing pressure to increase.
The heart has to work harder to push blood through the lungs, which weakens or damages the heart.
PH is sometimes present even when someone is first diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, such as IPF.
